Getting Your High School Diploma from Community Schools

If you wish to earn a high school diploma, you will need to take an assessment test. This test will help determine whether the GED or CB program is better for you. A Basic Skills Class will be offered to those students who score below the sixth grade reading level. This class is a review of basic reading, writing and mathementics skills.

There are two available ways to earn a High School diploma at the Community School for Adults.

1. Competency Based High School Diploma Program (CB) (30 Hours for each unit) CB is a three semester life-skills program consisting of five units. Students must pass all unit tests, a CB mastery test and fulfill one of three career goals to earn a diploma.

2. General Education Development (GED) Preparation (55 hours) is a review of reading, math, writing and test taking skills; At the end of the one-semester class, students will take the GED test. The GED test battery includes 5 tests, each measuring the major skills considered being the outcome of a high school diploma. The student must pass the GED test with an average of 450 for the combined five tests with no score less than 410 on any one test.
